![]() EarthBound hasn't seen real activity from Nintendo since Mother 3 and if there was any Nintendo perfectly poised for a revival, much less an official North American release. EarthBound Beginnings and EartbBound's digital inclusion on the Nintendo Switch gives fans an opportunity to put their money where their mouths are and show the franchise its support. Fans have certainly been clamoring for a localization of Mother 3 for over fifteen years, including celebrities like Terry Crews. Nintendo's renewed interest in the EarthBound franchise, seven years since the games were ported to the Wii U, could perhaps serve as a gauge on fan interest to see if Nintendo should invest the time in an official localization. For the past fourteen years, there have been no confirmed plans from Nintendo to release an official North American localized version of Mother 3. As a ROM of Mother 3 became illegally available in North America, an ambitious fan translation of the game, totaling 200 pages of translated text, proliferated online in 2008 after two years of development. ![]() Critical and commercial success in Japan like its predecessors, the lukewarm reception to EarthBound and the GBA's successor the Nintendo DS already being available in North America for two years, Nintendo kept Mother 3's release to Japan. After years of being stuck in development hell, including canceled plans for a sequel on the Nintendo 64, Mother 3 was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006. ![]()
